A San Jose, California police officer was shot multiple times early Saturday morning. At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday evening, two San Jose officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle immediately exited his vehicle and opened fire on the officers, striking their patrol vehicle multiple times. He then got back in his vehicle and fled to a nearby residence, barricading himself inside. During the standoff, he fired at San Jose SWAT officers, striking one twice, once in his ballistic-resistant vest and once in his hip. The assailant was eventually taken into custody. The injured officer’s partner immediately transported him to a nearby hospital, where he underwent surgery for his injuries. Investigators were able to determine the identity of the passenger who shot the officer, and a SWAT team located him a short time later and took him into custody without further incident. The driver of the vehicle and the other passenger were also located and apprehended.

The injured officer was transported to a local hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries. Subsequent investigation revealed that the assailant had been stalking police officers and planning targeted attacks against police.
