An officer with the Boston, Massachusetts, Police Department was shot Monday evening. At approximately 9:30 p.m. Monday, officers from the Boston Police Department responded to a call for a domestic dispute at a residence in Dorchester. Upon arrival, the male resident of the home opened fire on the officers, striking one of them in the chest. The male resident was taken into custody, and he is now facing multiple charges including attempted murder and other firearms-related offenses.

The injured officer, who was wearing a ballistic-resistant vest at the time of incident, was transported to Boston Medical Center for treatment of what police described as “non-life-threatening injuries.” Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox stated “We are very fortunate tonight that our officer is going to be fine, at least physically. We issue those vests for a reason. But for that vest, I don’t know if we’d be saying the same things.” The investigation into the officer’s shooting is ongoing.
